TCPS Board Member Otis Sampson Recognized
Otis Sampson, Talbot County school board member, was recognized at the 2017 Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) conference for successfully completing MABE’s Leadership I Program.
Leadership I is a component of MABE’s Board Development Program. It is comprised of critiquing a Maryland State Board of Education meeting, observing a school board meeting in another district, leadership in MABE committees and activities, and attending courses on topics such as communication, policy development, school system budgets, facilitating meetings, legislative skills, and school governance.
In praising graduates of the professional development programs, MABE Executive Director Frances Hughes Glendening stated, “Excellence in the classroom begins with excellence in the boardroom. Professional development is an important part of board service, expanding the member’s knowledge of educational issues and deepening their understanding of the art and science of leadership.”
