District News

An Important PowerSchool Notification

Dear TCPS Community,

We are writing to make you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the software vendor that provides our Student Information System (SIS), that has impacted our district and many others.

On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool informed our leadership team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool SIS customer data. Unfortunately, they have confirmed that this includes information belonging to some of our families and educators. Through discussions with PowerSchool, the company acknowledged that there was no action that TCPS could have taken to prevent the breach.

PowerSchool informed TCPS that the data taken is primarily parent and student contact information with data elements such as name and address. They have determined that for a portion of individuals across their customer base, some personally identifiable information (PII) such as social security numbers (SSN) and medical information was also impacted.  They are working with urgency to complete their investigation to determine the full extent of PII belonging to our students and staff that was involved.  We do know, however, that TCPS student SSNs were not in the data files that were compromised.  They have also advised TCPS that the incident is now contained, and there is no current and ongoing threat to our student and staff data.

Protecting our students and educators is something we take seriously. With PowerSchool’s help, more information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services if

applicable) will be provided to our families and educators as it becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Sharon Pepukayi, Ed.D.
Superintendent
